Every month I receive a church bulletin called The Church Visitor in my home mailbox. I usually pass it off to my wife who then informs me of the goings on in the church community. The December 2006 issue never made it to my wife. I skimmed it over and noticed on the back an anonymous poem called A Holiday Prayer which really caught my eye. I loved the simplicity of the message and decided to set it to music. My wish was to make this a nice contrast to my other winter choral piece, The Frost Bound Wood and to make it accessible, yet challenging, so that all levels of choirs might enjoy it. May Christmas time mean more to you than gifts on Christmas morn. May Christ the Lord watch over you and keep you safe and warm. May you feel the peace the whole world knew when Christ the Lord was born. May you know the special gladness and Hope that came to Earth. Chaque mois, je reçois un bulletin d'église appelée l'Église visiteur dans ma boîte aux lettres de la maison. Je passe habituellement hors de ma femme qui m'a informe alors de ce qui se passe dans la communauté de l'église. Le numéro de Décembre 2006 ne s'est jamais rendu à ma femme. Je écrémé encore et remarqué sur le dos un poème anonyme intitulé A Prayer de vacances qui a vraiment attiré mon attention. J'ai adoré la simplicité du message et a décidé de le mettre en musique. Mon souhait était de faire un joli contraste avec mon autre pièce chorale d'hiver, Le Bois gel Bound et de la rendre accessible, mais difficile, de sorte que tous les niveaux de chorales pourraient profiter.
