Written for the Quincentenary of St. Peter Mancroft, Norwich in 1955 and based on the plainsong 'Tu es Petrus' which is loudly declaimed on the organ in unison before the choir's first entry. This more extended anthem picks up on elements which Britten had used in his Hymn to St. Cecilia thirteen years earlier. The broad unison melody with which the choral parts start is similar, however, to the opening of the Hymn of St. Columba. It is the middle section written as a scherzo which is reminiscent of the section in the St. Cecilia hymn at figure 8. 'I cannot grow. I have no shadow to run away from. This is also the part of this anthem which might give less able choirs some trouble. It needs to be sung 'quickly and lightly' as Britten indicates and his metronome mark at dotted crotchet 112 is indeed fast. But the notes are not difficult and they certainly reward detailed work. The next section is a reprise of the opening which moves into a dying Alleluia. The final section has lovely solo. or semi-chorus. phrases in Latin separated by very soft choral interjections translating these phrases into English. Rédigé pour le centième anniversaire de Saint-Pierre Mancroft, Norwich en 1955 et basé sur le plain-chant «Tu es Petrus», qui est fort déclamé sur l'orgue à l'unisson avant la première entrée de la chorale. Cet hymne plus étendue ramasse sur les éléments qui Britten avait utilisés dans son Hymne à Sainte Cécile treize années plus tôt. Le large mélodie unisson avec laquelle les parties chorales commencent est similaire, cependant, à l'ouverture de l'Hymne de Saint Columba. C'est la section du milieu écrit comme un scherzo qui n'est pas sans rappeler de la section dans l'hymne Sainte-Cécile à la figure 8. «Je ne peux pas grandir. Je n'ai pas l'ombre de fuir. C'est aussi la partie de cet hymne qui pourrait donner des chœurs moins capables quelques problèmes. Il doit être chanté «rapidement et légère» que Britten indique et sa marque de métronome à noire pointée 112 est en effet rapide. Mais les notes ne sont pas difficiles et ils récompensent certainement travail détaillé. La section suivante est une reprise de l'ouverture qui se déplace dans un Alleluia mourir. La dernière section a beau solo. ou semi-chœur. phrases en latin séparés par des interjections chorales très doux traduire ces phrases en anglais.
