The sonata was inspired in part by the American music, both classical and jazz, of the mid-20th century, and is an homage to the composers of that era. The two outer movements are written for Trumpet in C, and follow the general formal structure of a sonata. The first movement is in sonata-allegro form, contrasting a lyrical first theme with an agitated and chaotic second theme group. The middle movement is written for the flugelhorn, and is in the form of a very simple "lullabye" melody which evolves into a kind of "dream episode" in a lively jazz-fusion style before gradually returning to the tranquil mood of the opening. The third movement is a spirited, light-hearted rondo which conjures up images of the American West. The Sonata is dedicated to the memory of Hall Overton. 1920-1972. and William Vacchiano. 1912-2005.

La sonate a été inspiré en partie par la musique américaine, à la fois classique et du jazz, de la moitié du 20ème siècle, et est un hommage aux compositeurs de l'époque. Les deux mouvements extrêmes sont écrites pour Trompette en C, et suivent la structure formelle générale d'une sonate. Le premier mouvement est de forme sonate allegro, contrastant un premier thème lyrique avec un deuxième groupe thématique agité et chaotique. Le mouvement central est écrit dans le bugle, et est sous la forme d'une mélodie très simple "de berceuse" qui se transforme en une sorte de «épisode de rêve" dans un style vivant jazz-fusion du scrutin avant peu à peu à l'ambiance paisible de l'ouverture. Le troisième mouvement est un rondo vif, allègre qui évoque des images de l'Ouest américain. La Sonata est dédié à la mémoire du Temple Overton. 1920-1972. et William Vacchiano. 1912-2005.
