In this one-movement concerto the flute is a highly adaptable soloist. at times a whispering breath on a starry sky, at others an arctic bird soaring above a winter landscape, taking startled flight on spotting a human figure. The idea for this work came to Nieminen in Rome when he was kept awake by persistent birdsong in the heat of the night. The title alludes to the last novel, Palomar, by Italo Calvino.

Dans ce seul mouvement concerto de la flûte est un soliste très adaptable. parfois un souffle murmurant sur un ciel étoilé, tantôt un oiseau planant au-dessus de l'Arctique un paysage d'hiver, de prendre la fuite surpris sur repérer une figure humaine. L'idée de ce travail est venu à Nieminen à Rome où il a été maintenu éveillé par le chant des oiseaux persistant dans la chaleur de la nuit. Le titre fait allusion au dernier roman, Palomar, par Italo Calvino.
