"This flowing melody is supported by harmonies that have just a ""hint of spice"". Romantic in mood with a little modern twist, this piece came about when I was trying to finish an earlier, weaker piece, by finishing an incomplete B section. This B outgrew the original A, got its own B, and became this Nocturne. I purposely omitted octave reaches in this piece, because it was originally written for a talented pianist who could not yet reach an octave. I also had in mind a former student of mine who was born without fingers on her right hand, and I omitted any sort of double notes in the right hand. I dedicated it to Andrys Basten, for her friendship and moral support, On October 1, 2005 she recorded it - beautifully - on the night she received the piece. A little Ravelian ""sideways thumb"" here and there may assist in the left-hand ""cluster chords"" that occur near the end of the piece.
