Two-part with piano and optional flute o Advent o This anthem takes familiar prophetic lines from Isaiah 40. 3 and intersperses them with a shortened version of the text found in the first stanza of the well-known Advent hymn, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. The energetic 6. 8 meter contributes to a mood of eager anticipation, as do the running eighth-note passages in the optional flute part. In "partner song style," two melodies are introduced at the beginning of the piece which are then sung together building to a joyous, climatic ending. The second melody with its repetitive textual and musical phrases is easy enough for younger elementary singers, making the piece appropriate for younger and older elementary choirs. Lectionary use.
