Brooklyn, 1898 n Hollywood, 1937. is not only the composer of Rhapsody in Blue, Porgy and Bess and An American in Paris, he also wrote some twenty musicals, including Lady Be Good, Show Girls and Strike up the Band. 1927, 1930. Gershwin wrote two famous satiric marches "Wintergreen for President" and "Strike up the Band". the latter, heard on Broadway in the musical of the same name, was a mock battle cry for an army that didn't have the slightest idea what it was fighting for.
