The A section begins with a delicate melody in G major, creating the image of a brightly shining field of sunflowers. The B section depicts the wind gently blowing through the wheat fields. The left hand in this section is expansive and covers a wide range. The melody is an excellent study of harmonic intervals, especially thirds. The. time signature adds to the lilting quality of the piece. The complete picture of the music paints a beautiful and lyrical tribute to the state of Kansas.
