With the following compositions much depends upon a judicious choice of the stops. But in as much as every organ of which I have cognisance required, in this respect, is own particular treatment owing to the fact that the like-named stops on different instruments do not always produce uniform effects, I have confined myself to prescribing certain limits only, without actually indicating the specific stops to be used. Thus I employ the term FORTISSIMO as suggestive of the full organ. grand jeu. and PIANISSIMO as generally implying a soft 8-foot stop by itself. FORTE as indicative of the full organ without the admixture of any of the fullest stops. PIANO as a combination of several 8-foot stops, and so on. Where the PEDALS are indicated my idea is, even in the PIANISSIMO, that the 8-foot and 16-foot stops should be combined, excepting only where the contrary is especially prescribed. see the sixth Sonata. It is, therefore, left to the discretion of the player himself to select the mixtures of the various stops in a manner suited to the individual pieces, but it is essential to take care that in combining two manuals the one manual shall be distinct from the other as regards tone-quality without, however, producing a harsh contrast in this respect. Mais dans la mesure où tous les organes dont j'ai connaissance nécessaire, à cet égard, est propre traitement particulier en raison du fait que les arrêts du même nom sur différents instruments ne produisent pas toujours les effets uniformes, je me suis borné à prescrire certaines limites seulement, sans indiquer le fait spécifique s'arrête pour être utilisé. Ainsi j'emploie le terme FORTISSIMO comme évocateur de l'organe complet. Grand Jeu. et PIANISSIMO comme impliquant généralement un arrêt de 8 pieds doux par lui-même. FORTE comme une indication de l'organe complet sans l'addition de l'un des arrêts les plus complètes. PIANO comme une combinaison de plusieurs de 8 pieds s'arrête, et ainsi de suite. Lorsque les pédales sont indiqués mon idée est que, même dans le PIANISSIMO, que les arrêts de 8 pieds et de 16 pieds devraient être combinées, à la seule exception où le contraire est surtout prescrit. voir le sixième Sonata. Il est donc laissée à la discrétion du joueur lui-même pour sélectionner les mélanges des différentes étapes d'une manière adaptée aux pièces individuelles, mais il est essentiel de veiller à ce que dans la combinaison de deux manuels celle manuel doit être distincte de la l'autre en ce qui concerne la tonalité de qualité, sans pour autant produire un contraste sévère à cet égard.
