The assumption that J S Bach had written this aria when it was found in the Anna Magdalena Bach notebook has been thoroughly disputed and it is now attributed to the German composer Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel, from his opera Diomedes. The score has been lost and the Anna Magdalena Bach notebook contained only the Vocal line and unfigured bass. This lovely, stately, romantic aria has been arranged for two Voices in the mezzo range, and is a popular choice for weddings.
