Composed by George Frideric Handel. Choral. General. With music. Concordia Publishing House #982473POD. Published by Concordia Publishing House (CR.982473POD).UPC: 078777008130.
This piece, based on George Frideric Handel's Chandos Anthem No. 4 'O sing unto the Lord a new song' (HWV 249b), contains the final two choruses of that work: movement 6 'Let the whole earth stand in awe' and movement 7 'Let the heavens rejoice.' It has been arranged by Robert S. Hines for three voices (SAB) instead of the original five- and four-part chorus, necessitating some slight shifting of the voice parts. The keyboard accompaniment was prepared by Gerhard Krapf. The original is one step higher; dynamic indications are those of Handel. Adapted from Psalm 96:9, 11, the text is appointed for Christmas Midnight but is useful throughout the year.
