Published by Ken Turley (A0.925960).Hymn To The Sun is an art song for voice, accompanied by piano or classical guitar, violin, viola and cello. It is sacred, perhaps more spiritual than religious, in that it celebrates the dawn of the new day and the coming of spring, the eternal metaphor for the regeneration of the human spirit. As the earth is renewed by the light and warmth of the sun, so too the spirit is renewed by the divine wisdom and love, perceived only if we are willing to open ourselves to receive. This piece was composed in one night as part of a fund raiser for support of Mountain Top Music in Conway New Hampshire. While the full effect is achieved with all the instruments, in can be successfully performed with any one or two of the string instruments. With piano alone it would call for improvisation on the part of the pianist. Presently I can only offer a computer generated listening track. The vocal part is without words, but the general intent can be heard.
