ADVICE OF INTERPRETATION
CONSEILS D'INTERPRETATIONWritten on 2009-11-10 by guillaume-chapuis
Further to your various comments and to the number of downloadings of the Break in about weeks, I decided to write this little note as a preface as I do with my scores published by Bourges R publisher. Those of you who have downloaded MP3 files and PDF from «L'Échapp&ea cute;e » have probably noticed differences between the score and my interpretation. I speak mainly about tempos and nuances. It explains by the fact that I like to give some freedom on these points.
What musician has ever felt frustrated to hear by his teacher. not to slow down here or, don't play as fast a particular passage, either to respect « literally » pianissimo noted that and!! Certainly, it is sometimes essential to follow a score "literally" but not always and especially not mine!!!
That I note a tempo of 80 to the half-note is not inevitable! If you play at 71 or 88 at half-note , so much the better! That the structure of the piece is consistent and that you feel comfortable is the principal. Ditto for an accelerando taken one bar earlier or later if that's how you feel. It leaves well on also for nuances! Another important point is the use of the sustain pedal. In the majority of my compositions, it's omnipresent. Generally marked once ("Ped") in the beginning of score, it is then to you to measure the use till the end, unless otherwise specified.

In brief, in some words: dare a big freedom of performance!!!
